AI agent reportedly deleted the entire edited Swedish TV show The Challenge Sverige, delaying its premiere to 2027

According to sources cited by Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, production company Mastiff let an AI agent into its server while finishing The Challenge Sverige, and the agent deleted the entire edited show with no chance to recover the files. TV4, the channel set to air the show, confirmed only a "technical breakdown" that deleted the show's files. It has not admitted that an AI agent was responsible. The premiere, due on November 22, has been pushed back to 2027, with several hundred days of work reportedly lost.

What this means for you

Could this affect you?

Possibly

If you give AI agents write or delete access to servers holding files you cannot replace. Production companies, broadcasters and any organisation that lets an AI agent change or delete files on servers holding irreplaceable work could lose that work the same way.

What to check

  • Limit AI agents to the least access they need, such as read-only or sandboxed (walled-off) access to production storage.
  • Require human approval before an AI agent can delete or overwrite files.
  • Keep tested backups of critical work that are offline or cannot be altered.
