AI-generated audio falsely showed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Sohail Afridi calling TTP militants his 'brothers'

On October 5, a user on X shared a 33-second clip of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi addressing a rally in Kohat, with AI-generated audio of him calling Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members his 'brothers'. Geo Fact Check found the fake audio was added to authentic footage from his official Facebook account, where he said something different. Detection tools Hiya and DeepFake-o-Meter rated the audio as highly likely AI-generated, and PTI politician Junaid Akbar confirmed it was fake. The post had been viewed 140,000 times and reshared 503 times.

What the AI did

AI was used to generate fake audio of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi calling Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members his 'brothers', and this audio was added to authentic video of him speaking at a rally in Kohat. It has not been reported who made the audio or which AI tool was used.
